About CPWD

The Florida Certification Board's Center for Prevention Workforce Development provides training, technical assistance, workforce planning and policy development activities focused on building a skilled prevention workforce for Florida's communities. The Center employs a competency-focused approach to meet the needs of prevention specialists working in a variety of organizational settings, focusing on a wide range of problems, and targeted at clients across the life span.

The Center is dedicated to: 

  • building, maintaining, and enhancing an adequately prepared and competent substance abuse prevention workforce;
  • identifying the essential components and key factors of workforce development that contribute to increased effectiveness and accountability of services provided;
  • assisting Florida's prevention agencies in implementing new technologies for leading and managing change, outcomes, and prevention workforce development; and
  • creating products for training based on identified prevention competencies.
