The Best Beginning: Partnerships Between Primary Health Care and Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services for Young Children and Their Families  Pediatricians are in a unique position to identify early childhood mental health concerns and family mental health and substance abuse risk factors. This SAMHSA-funded web-based resource features eight innovative medical home practices that integrate behavioral health screening for the whole family, facilitate referrals to community services, and offer follow-up care. This resource describes how the practices use very different approaches to do it, fund it, and the lessons they learned. Florida Prevention System: A Vision for the Prevention Component of the Florida Drug Control Strategy Prevention is the linchpin of Florida's Drug Control Strategy. In 2001, state prevention stakeholders developed the Florida Prevention System document to help guide state and local coordination of Florida's diverse substance abuse prevention resources. This 2004 Update version of the document includes clear guidance for local communities on issues like policy, organization, resource development, collaboration and accountability. To apply for a SAMHSA grant, you will need information from two different types of documents - the Standard Grant Announcements and specific Notices of Funding Availability, or NOFAs. Florida Youth Substance Abuse Survey (FYSAS) Teenage illegal drug use in Florida declined again this year, Gov. Jeb Bush said as he announced the results of an annual survey of middle and high school students. The Florida Youth Substance Abuse Survey (FYSAS) assessed lifetime drug usage and current usage among sixth through 12th graders across the state. "We have worked to strengthen substance abuse prevention, and we have seen significant progress," Bush said. "Progress is being made, but the work is not done." University of Michigan's 2006 Monitoring the Future (MTF) Study Teen drug use has declined by 23 percent since 2001 for 8th, 10th and 12th graders combined, with reductions in the use of nearly every drug prevalence category, according to the University of Michigan's 2006 Monitoring the Future (MTF) study released Thursday, December 21, 2006.
